Robert E. Edgar, age 77, of Beach City died Sunday, January 24, 2010, in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a brief illness.
A son of the late Fred H. and Frances I. (Butler) Edgar, Bob was born in Unionvale at Harrison County, O., on June 23, 1932.
As a young man he entered into the United States Army where he was stationed at Panama. Following his tour of duty, Bob would soon begin a career that spanned more than 25 years with the former Norfolk & Western Railroad as a brakeman on the rail line and later held the position of conductor.
During his spare time and into retirement life, Bob would devote a great deal to the Strasburg Masonic Lodge No. 604, F & AM. His active involvement within the organization led him to serve as the Master on two different occasions and would also serve as the Secretary for a number of terms. Additionally, he was active as a member of both the Scottish and York Rites and also held the position of Past District Education Officer.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Mary Frances "Fran" Wolfe of the home; two children, a daughter, Tina Garabrandt of Beach City, and a son, Fred (Judy) Edgar of Navarre; and two sisters, Martha Bulian and Evelyn Applegarth Carter, both of St. Clairsville, O.
Two grandchildren, Nikki (Nate) Seal of Beach City and Bryan (Lory) Garabrandt of Las Vegas, Nev., as well as a step-great-granddaughter, Ashlyn, complete the family.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers, Richard Edgar and Orville Edgar, and a son-in-law, Bryan Garabrandt.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, cremation care will be handled through Geib's Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. The family will hold private services at a later date.
Those wishing to send the family personal condolences may do so by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home's Web site.
